Some sessions are about the milestone. This one was about marriage.
Later in the same shoot, after the family portraits were done, Jimea and her husband stepped back in front of the camera, just the two of them. Same day, same studio, completely different energy. Where the first set told the story of survival, this part of the session was about something else. The two of them, alone in the frame, remembering why they picked each other in the first place.
Fifteen years and three kids in, most couples know what it’s like to become co-managers of a household before anything else. The school runs. The budgets. The late night logistics. Somewhere in all that competent, necessary partnership, the romance can end up on the back burner. Not because it’s gone, but because there’s just less room made for it.
This part of the session was Jimea and her husband making room for it on purpose.
You could feel the shift in the room the moment they were framed as just a couple. Less “parents,” more two people who are still very much into each other. The kind of chemistry that doesn’t need much direction, just permission to show up.
Jimea put it simply. Their love matured from excitement and possibility into partnership, trust and commitment. What these photos captured was proof that maturity and spark aren’t opposites. You can build a life, a family, a whole legacy together and still look at each other like it’s early days.
Her husband let his guard down here too, in a different way than during the family portion. Less protective, more playful. That’s what happens when two people who’ve weathered real seasons together decide to treat their marriage like it’s still worth pursuing, not just maintaining.
That’s the whole point of this part of the session. Not another family portrait. A love letter, fifteen years in the making, to the two people who started it all.
Because a marriage that lasts isn’t just about surviving the hard seasons together. It’s about still being a little spicy about it, kids and all.
